Role Overview Department: Risk Management Main Purpose of the Job To establish, lead, and embed robust Commercial and Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) principles across the organisation. The incumbent will design, implement, and maintain risk management policies, standards, and frameworks aligned with the Group’s strategic corporate plan. This executive role is responsible for directing the approach to identifying, assessing, managing, and reporting risk across the Enterprise-Wide Risk Management Framework (ERMF), including direct risk oversight of all subsidiary companies. Key Performance Areas (KPAs) 1. Strategy & ERM Framework Integration Design, develop, implement, and continuously improve the Enterprise-Wide Risk Management Framework (ERMF). Drive the integration of the ERMF into business unit strategies and operational performance contracts. Foster a progressive, risk-aware culture across the organization to entrench formal, proactive risk management practices. 2. Statutory, Regulatory Compliance & Ethics Establish, implement, and monitor a robust corporate compliance framework and policy. Ensure full compliance with all applicable legislation, managing accurate and timely statutory reporting to both internal and external stakeholders. Design, implement, and maintain the Group Ethics Policy. Act as the designated Ethics Officer for the Group, promoting ethical governance and managing related frameworks. 3. Risk Identification, Assessment & Appetite Management Formulate and recommend the Group's Risk Appetite Statement in alignment with the ERMF and business strategy; review limits and present reports to the Board for approval. Conduct comprehensive, quantitative, and qualitative risk assessments while maintaining a dynamic corporate risk register. Oversee the definition and monitoring of interest rate, market, and liquidity risks. Ensure the implementation and optimization of an advanced Treasury Risk Monitoring Tool, actively monitoring funding and treasury activities via the Asset and Liability Committee (ALCO). Ensure robust Business Continuity Management (BCM) and Disaster Recovery (DR) strategies are in place and regularly tested. 4. Oversight, Monitoring & Business Intelligence Develop and manage rigorous monitoring and evaluation systems to ensure absolute adherence to internal policies and procedures. Independently evaluate treasury compliance against approved limits, including counterparty exposure, weekly trade settlements, and the borrowing plan. Oversee the management, evaluation, and grading systems of credit risk within the Bank, including provisions (impairments), sector concentration, and portfolio risks. Lead the Business Intelligence capability for risk: conduct macro-environment research (domestic and international) and analyze multi-unit data to drive strategic executive decision-making. 5. Stakeholder & Committee Management Partner with, advise, and present to key internal governance structures and external regulatory bodies, acting as a key contributor or chairperson where required. Key stakeholders include: Board Risk and Governance Committee Board Audit and Finance Committee Asset and Liability Committee (ALCO) Operational Risk and Process Risk Committee Credit Risk Monitoring Committee National Treasury 6. Departmental Leadership & Financial Management People Management: Translate the corporate business plan into clear divisional deliverables. Manage capacity planning, recruitment, and performance management (Job Profiles, KPAs, and Personal Development Plans). Provide ongoing coaching and actively drive Employment Equity (EE) targets. Financial Governance: Formulate and manage the departmental budget. Enforce strict financial controls to eliminate fruitless expenditure, ensure cost-efficiency, and maintain the financial health of the division.
