SHEQ Manager

Chemical & Industrial Environment Role Overview An established industrial and chemical manufacturing operation is seeking a hands-on SHEQ Manager to lead compliance, strengthen governance frameworks, and embed a proactive zero-harm culture across production, chemical processing, and workshop operations. Reporting to executive leadership, you will translate statutory regulations into practical operational standards and ensure constant audit readiness across multi-disciplinary environments. Key Responsibilities 1. Strategic Governance & ISO Management Systems Maintain, audit, and continually improve the Integrated Management System (IMS) aligned with ISO 9001 (Quality), ISO 14001 (Environment), and ISO 45001 (Occupational Health & Safety). Lead internal and external third-party certification audits, ensuring non-conformances are investigated and closed out with sustainable corrective actions. Formulate operational SHEQ targets, KPIs, and executive reporting dashboards to track lead and lag safety metrics. 2. Legal Compliance & Risk Management Ensure strict adherence to the OHS Act 85 of 1993, Hazardous Chemical Agents (HCA) Regulations, Major Hazard Installation (MHI) Regulations, and environmental legislation (NEMA). Facilitate baseline, issue-based, and continuous Hazard Identification and Risk Assessments (HIRA) across workshops and chemical production areas. Direct root-cause analyses (RCAs) for incidents and near-misses, driving preventative measures to prevent recurrence. 3. Operational Safety, Chemical Handling & Training Implement strict protocols for dangerous goods handling, chemical storage, effluent management, and personal protective equipment (PPE) compliance. Drive contractor safety management, issuing permits to work (PTW), safe work procedures (SWPs), and site access approvals. Develop and deliver targeted SHEQ training, toolbox talks, and emergency response evacuation plans. Work Type: On-site / Operations-focused
